AHA acids

Alpha-hydroxy acids are a collective term for a large group of fruit acids that are used to effectively promote healthier and smoother skin. The AHA molecules are found naturally in several fruits and are therefore called fruit acid. Examples are Glycolic acid (sugar beet), Lactic acid (milk), Mandelic Acid (almond) and Citric acid (citrus). AHA acids promote skin renewal and remove dead skin cells that clog pores and make the skin look rougher and more tired.

AHA acids work in the top cell layer of the skin (Stratum corneum). They weaken the bonds between the skin cells in the epidermis and cause a slight peeling of the skin (peeling). This removes the top layer of the horn and gives smoother, cleaner, tighter and more radiant skin.

AHA acids even out pigment changes in the skin, and in higher concentrations it can lighten brown spots. Those with clearly sun-affected (pigment, uneven skin tone, lines, wrinkles, large pores etc.) skin have a very good effect from fruit acids. Which concentration you choose depends on the skin problem you are treating. AHA acids are most effective in a concentration of 10-20% (medium-strong). Higher concentrations are used as a clinic treatment for stronger exfoliation/peeling.

Several clinical studies have confirmed that fruit acids are an effective treatment method for skin improvement. Fine lines, wrinkles, pigment changes and roughness in the skin are improved with the use of alpha-hydroxy acids. Common side effects are redness of the skin, dryness and slight burning. The treatment is tolerated by most people. It is important to use sun protection in the summer.
