Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic acid, also known as L-ascorbic acid, is the form of vitamin C that is most researched when it comes to skin. Vitamin C is one of the most potent and effective antioxidants available. Concentration of 5-20% can drastically improve signs of aging such as pigment spots, wrinkles and loss of elasticity due to sun damage. Lower concentrations such as 0.3-2% also provide benefits, such as the improvement of an uneven skin tone and fine lines. Ascorbic acid is even more powerful when mixed with other antioxidants, especially vitamin E. Vitamin C in its own form is relatively unstable, but together with vitamin E they keep each other stabilized and the antioxidant effect lasts longer.
