Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is a form of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that is extracted from the sugar in various plants and fruits. That is why it is often called fruit acid. AHA acids are often used in exfoliating skin care, as they have the ability to dissolve old, dry skin cells on the skin’s surface and in this way stimulate cell renewal.
Glycolic acid has the smallest molecular size of all AHA acids, which means it has the best ability to penetrate the skin. This allows glycolic acid to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastic fibers, which will improve the skin's elasticity and texture. Therefore, glycolic acid is best suited for mature, sun-damaged and thicker skin, but can also be suitable for skin with acne or pigmentation.
