• RETINOL

WHAT IT IS & WHAT IT DOES
    WHAT ABOUT THE SKIN?

Most people have eventually heard of the skin care ingredient retinol. Few people know that vitamin A is involved. Retinol is vitamin A acid, has very small molecules and can work deep down in the skin.

There it affects your cell renewal, which in turn causes the skin cells to behave more like when you were young. And skin that acts like it's young – yes, it will look younger too.

Collagen production is increased
The skin structure becomes smoother
Circulation is improved
Skin and capillaries are strengthened
Pigment spots are reduced
Lines and wrinkles are counteracted
Provides antioxidant effect

Retinol is now the best documented ingredient against signs of aging in the skin! This despite the fact that it was originally used to combat acne. Retinol also has a good effect on clogged pores. This is because vitamin A helps the skin get rid of dead skin cells. In this way, the sebum will not "get stuck" in the pores and cause problems.

      Precautions:

Since retinol removes dead skin cells, it is important to use a high sun protection factor during the day. At least spf 30 on a daily basis and spf 50 when you are out in the sun.
Give the skin a gradual adaptation, and use retinol products in the evening. Be extra careful if you have sensitive skin.
Since retinol increases cell renewal and removes dead skin cells, many people experience some flaking at the start. Then use a lot of moisture in your day products for a period of time.
Contact a skin care professional, preferably with us, if you experience unwanted effects when using retinol.

      Are there alternatives to retinol?

Yes, there are more. There are several derivatives of vitamin A that have a similar effect, e.g. retinyl palmitate , which is a vitamin A ester. This is gentler on the skin and is great for those with slightly sensitive skin. Retinyl palmitate can also be combined with retinol in products and produce a good effect.

Another ingredient, which is increasingly used in skin care, is the plant ingredient bakuchiol . Derived from an East Asian flowering shrub, this ingredient has been shown to have many of the same skin benefits as retinol, without the downsides of flaking, redness and sun sensitivity.
