WHAT ARE RETINOIDS?
Description
- The aging brake
Using retinoids is like 'pulling the aging brake' and works by addressing several of the underlying causes of signs of aging in the skin, such as reduced collagen production, slower cell renewal and sun damage. - In the same way that pressing the brakes in a car can slow down the speed and slow down, the use of retinoids can help to slow down the aging process in the skin.
- This is done by stimulating the production of collagen, speeding up cell renewal and treating existing sun damage, which together results in a smoother, firmer and more youthful skin surface. Retinoids are some of the best-documented active ingredients we have in the field of antiaging in the skin.
RETINAL - MORE EFFECTIVE THAN RETINOL
Key features
- Retinal is considered to be more effective than retinol due to its close chemical structure to retinoic acid, the active form of vitamin A in the skin. This is because retinol must be converted to retinal and then to retinoic acid in the skin before it can exert its effect, i.e. it is the retinoic acid itself that does the work inside the skin.
- Due to its close relationship to retinoic acid, retinal can have a stronger and more direct effect on the skin compared to retinol. This can lead to faster and more noticeable results in reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage.
- Remember rule:
The more conversions a retinoid has to undergo before it becomes retinoic acid, the milder, weaker and less sensitizing it is on the skin. In products sold without a prescription, they are distributed in the following order: - Retinyl palmitate -> Retinol -> Retinal -> Retinoic acid
WHAT ABOUT SENSITIVITY?
Clinical study
- Retinoids, such as retinol and retinal, can provide amazing results, but they can also cause irritation, dryness and sensitivity, especially in those with sensitive skin or when used in high concentration.
We have therefore chosen to encapsulate retinal in liposomes. By doing this, the retinal is "hidden" inside a liposome and delivered more gently to the skin. - What are liposomes?
Think of liposomes as small capsules or bubbles that contain active ingredients. Because liposomes resemble the skin's own cells, they are "recognised" by the skin and absorbed more easily, it is as if the skin is more willing to "let them in". - When the liposomes are absorbed by the skin, the active ingredients are gradually released in smaller and more gentle "portions". This allows active ingredients to penetrate deep into the skin where they can do the most good, in addition to the gradual release preventing skin irritation.
WHEN SHOULD I START WITH RETINOIDS?
How to do it
- There is no specific age, but the use of retinoids can be beneficial when one begins to notice the first signs of aging, usually around the mid to late 20s.
- Typical signs:
- 1. Fine lines and wrinkles: When you start to notice the first fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes or on the forehead.
- 2. Uneven skin tone and texture: Skin that feels rough or has an uneven texture, or if you have visible hyperpigmentation or sun damage, to improve the skin's surface and reduce pigmentation.
- 3. Loss of firmness and elasticity: If you notice that your skin is starting to lose its firmness and elasticity, and that it looks laxer than before.
How to use
Useful info
- It is important to note that retinoids can be potentially irritating to some skin types, especially when first introduced into the routine. Therefore, they should be used with caution, and it may be wise to start with 2-3 times per week to improve the skin's tolerance, and gradually increase the use as needed.
- Apply to clean skin followed by night cream.
- It is important to use sun protection during the day when using retinoids.
- Note that this serum is NOT a nourishing serum that you will experience as "delicious on the skin". The serum absorbs into the skin and "disappears".
- To get the best effect from the serum, 2-3 minutes should pass before applying the cream so that the retinoids have time to penetrate the skin.
