Are you washing your makeup brushes correctly?

Many of us use one or more makeup brushes daily, but have you thought about the importance of cleaning them properly? Improper or lack of cleaning can actually shorten the lifespan of your brushes, so good advice is valuable here.

Your makeup brushes pick up microbes, sebum, and dead skin cells every time you use them, so you should wash them regularly. A good rule of thumb is that wet brushes (foundation, etc.) should be cleaned once a week, while dry brushes can do with once a month.

It used to be common to have animal hair in the brushes, so back then they said that shampoo was the best thing to clean with. It was even recommended to use conditioner on them! Now most are more animal-friendly, so we use synthetic hair. This means that they can withstand more, so it will be advantageous to use a more powerful detergent to get out all the product residue.

You can use Zalo, your cleanser (which you use to clean your face) or regular hand soap, for example. The most important thing is that you rinse well and that you do it regularly.

Here's how:

1: Take a small amount of your desired cleanser in the palm of your hand, moisten the brush (only the brush, not the handle) with water and wash the brush in your hand. Use your fingers to get into the hairs.

2: Clean until the water is clear and you can see the brush is clean. If it has been a while since you have done this, you may need to repeat the process a few times.

3: Lay the broom flat on a towel to dry, and preferably leave the handle a little higher than the bristles themselves, so that water does not draw into the metal part of the broom. This can cause the glue to go bad and the bristles or handle to fall out. This can also happen if you leave the broom to soak or dry standing up.

A good quality brush can last for many years, so take good care of it.
